“Anti-panic handles” refer to a type of handle generally used on emergency exit and fire-resistant doors in crowded locations—such as hospitals, offices, and shopping malls—or high-traffic environments in general; they allow the user to open the door by means of a horizontal bar. The anti-panic handle consists of a spring-loaded metal bar extending across the width of the door. Pressing the metal bar releases the lock latch, allowing for the rapid exit of occupants. Modern building standards typically mandate the use of doors equipped with panic bars in commercial and office buildings, or in premises where the rapid evacuation of occupants might be required.
